So… I’m kind of obsessed with the idea of doing everything on the dollhouse myself (other than things that I know are totally out of the realm of possibility for me – ie. mini lathe work; some metal work; miniature blown glass etc – which I would consider buying). There are a few conundrums that go along with this obsession the biggest to me is:
- When it sucks when I do it… and that is the best I can do, do I make do?; Practise (forever) till I get better?; or do I add it to the list of things to buy?
Have any of you got this feeling I have, or do you just buy what you want and make what you want?
Buying every lovely miniature that is well made and gorgeous is expensive. It’s expensive because it takes a lot of work and time for miniature artisans to get their work to be that oogleworthy in the first place right? Right…
But, I still really want to do ‘everything’ myself (picturing a naughty kid stomping on the ground and having a bit of a tantrum here is entirely appropriate…)
I laughed a little (and cried more recently) over the total amateurish level of Little Top Cottage when I bought it… But will my efforts be less laughable? I don’t even know yet. All I know is I have to try and I hope that the trying is going to be fun.
I created an Undersized Urbanite Project Page, which will kind of be my Project Plan as I am going along, and I intend linking all my posts there.
I’ve never done this before (as I’ve said a few times now) so not sure of how you do it. I have a spreadsheet with a sheet per miniature project dreamt of or started and on each page I add links to things I like or would like to use or style images etc to keep my ideas together. What do you do? How do you keep your ideas together and not let them lead you in a neverending swirl of procrastination?
When I started I was not very good about recording where my images came from – so if it’s yours or you recognise it please let me know so that I can attribute it properly.
The photo above inspired me for the staircase area. My house doesn’t have a front (so no real entrance) I am not sure how much realism I am going to add to where the stairs join the top floor but this is the idea for the bottom. I mentioned my triptych idea in my last mini post, this is where it sprung from, I would love the sidetable or bench to have the circus triptych posters above it. I did think I wanted a return staircase, but not sure this will work as planned.
I am working on a mini cross stitch pillow, which depending on resultant size will be for QBerry’s bed or for the sofa in the lounge. This is my first attempt at cross stitch that tiny but I do think I am getting the hang of it now. I am close to buying a magnifying contraption though, those stitches are really little!
Good Night, Wherever you are!
