I’m still hunting for work at the moment, so have been busy with that, but I have also been playing around with needles and my sewing machine.

I purchased this kit a long time ago (I believe it was the Adelaide Craft and Quilt Fair in November 2008!) from the Quilt Fabric Delights stand.

Finally here is the outcome!

Mum had a bag full of novelty buttons which made things much easier as it had a large range of colourful little flowers which worked well with the design.  I did initially attempt to do the applique with the machine, but I am still not comfortable sewing around curves and this had plenty of them so I did them all by hand.

Here is a bigger view where you can clearly see I have not ironed it yet 🙂 Some of the applique was 3d so the flowers or leaves had their own backing fabric and were only attached by the button for the flowers or a corner for the leaves.  I am thinking about using this as a pocket panel on a over the shoulder bag or a cushion, what do you think?

The other thing I did, was finally safety pin baste a quilt top I finished at least a year ago, but never started quilting.  It is a pattern called barn raising log cabin which I got from a book on Amish Quilting. The Amish style is very reserved and only had 2 or 3 colours in it, but I chose to turn mine into a rainbow pattern.  I pinned it a couple of weeks ago, but have not started quilting it yet. I am a little scared about it as I have not yet quilted a project so large. Wish me luck!
